How do we do Activation?

OSG enables client application(s) to program switches (voice, ATM, Ethernet) and intelligent network elements in real-time to provide "instant" service to customers. OSG is a Java server application that performs the mediation function between provisioning and elements in the clients' network. Its purpose is to automate programming of the network elements to enable instant activation. Supported network elements include voice switches, voice mail servers, DSLAM’s, NGDLC equipment, ATM and Ethernet switches, routers, or potentially any other device that requires provisioning to facilitate activation of a customer’s service.

The MARTENS application creates and formats the commands required to activate service on the required network elements. Creation of the commands is performed by examining service orders, and comparing the desired activity of a list of scenarios provided with the application. Using client specified rules, commands are then generated to perform the required provisioning of the network elements to activate the subscriber.
Service activation commands created by provisioning are sent to OSG, which performs the mediation function between it and the network elements to be programmed.

OSG performs any required sign-on process to navigate the various supported connection methods and establish connectivity with each network element. After sign-on, OSG interacts with the element or switch to send commands, interpret results, send modified responses to correct errors, and then optionally terminate the connection. All network elements, including communication types, accounts and passwords, are configured by the client within OSG. All interaction between OSG and the network element is logged and is fully audited so that a complete history of any update is available.
